yeeeaaah, so i'm way super late on plenty of things. BUT, the important thing is that i'm finally getting around to posting! "better late than never", that's my motto...lol. anywho, we have a lot of "big things poppin'" right now, so prepare for a lot of reading. let's begin with...
WE'RE MOVING OUT!! last Friday, Gee, my parents and i went up to Fayetteville in search of living space and childcare, and got to check *both* of off my list! i did some internet research on both apartments and daycares, so i already had a number one preference for both. and after visiting both the complex and the daycare, i was pleased with both, and put down a deposit on both! so i'll be going back up in mid-July to sign my lease and fill out all of the paperwork for Gee to start daycare! aaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya'll, excited isn't EVEN the word. finally, after 4 years in dorms and a sorority house, and 1 year at home, i get to live in an apartment! with my own room! and me & Gee not living on top of each other anymore! omgee...ya'll have no idea! anyway, enough about that [but did i mention that Gee will have her own ROOM!?]. on to...
1ST YEAR G*DAY!!! my babygirl is a baby, no more! as of today, June 10th, she is officially a ONE year old Toddler! can you believe it? i know i can't... it seems like just days ago that i was waddling into the Dr.'s office and being told that it was baby time! wow. time really does fly, as if i haven't been cliche enough today [lol]. however, i embrace the passage of time. some people mourn the days when their children were immobile and totally dependent on them. um, not me!! while yes, it was tiresome to keep tabs on a little one who loves to bang on the TV and put everything she sees in her mouth [except for the things that are actually meant for her to chew on!], but i don't have to hold her cup now. she can feed herself. when she gets to walking a bit better, i'll be relieved from hauling her heavy little self around [the doctor said she was only 18lbs8oz. but i don't believe it for a second...]. her personality and intuitiveness are amazing to observe; newborns and young infants are pretty boring, if you ask me. pretty to look at, yes. but still boring. so bring on toddlerhood, lil' mama. i'm pretty sure she's giving me sneak peeks of the Terrible Twos already, but as my mother loves to remind me, i'm only getting what i gave her! LOL, oh well! for the last update, let's....
PARTY! rather, partieS. Gee had her first 1st birthday party down here, under a pavilion in the park [basically]. it was a small, intimate affair, attended only by close family and friends [although one of her daycare buddies did stop by for a few minutes, which was nice]. we had my famous rainbow cupcakes [lol], and i made a large rainbow cupcake for Gee to eat/play in, which was hilarious to watch. not so hilarious to clean up, but still totally worth it. she got some great gifts, too. since i'm too lazy to list them or post pics here, check them out on Facebook. if we're not friends, shoot me a message so i can add you. i don't let people add me because there are some strange folks lurking on FB, nah'mean? anyway, we're having Gee's second 1st birthday party tomorrow in Little Rock, so that we can get out of the house, and so that our friends from the northern part of the state don't have to drive as far to celebrate with us. i'll do my best not to let a week pass before i tell ya'll about it. ;) until next time!

Gee's Baby Story, pt. 2
today has been a pretty *bleep*-y day. for me (dealing with my ex-boo and being embarrassed while trying to get our WIC from walmart) and Gee (gastro-intestinal issues. enough said). so i figure maybe writing part two of Gee's entrance into the world and reminiscing about the most amazing day of my life will make me feel better. let's try it and see...
so when we left off, i was on my way to the hospital, ELATED that (hopefully) in a few hours, i'd be holding my beautiful baby girl. i excitedly sent texts to my sister, LSs, and Gee's father, and posted my exclamation-point-filled status to Facebook, letting the world know about Gee's pending arrival. by 10:30am on Thursday, June 10th, i was decked out in my hospital gown with ice chips on deck. by 11, 11:30ish, the Pitocin was pumping through the IV. so yes, technically you could say my labor was induced, but i didn't have a birth plan and all i cared about was having a healthy baby without complications (and hopefully no C-section).
anyway, the Pitocin just pumped away, but i didn't feel anything for a few hours. the anesthesiologist dropped by to explain the methods of pain relief and have me sign all the necessary paperwork. after that, i just talked and texted and chilled, waiting for the pain of the contractions. the attending nurse told me to just wait a bit, they'd get worse. and boooooooooy, when those contractions hit? i mean, i thought my uterus was getting ran over by a Mac truck!! and yes, the double exclamation points are totally necessary. before i talk about pain relief, i'll say that i went into this thinking that i'd see how bad the contractions were, then i'd determine whether or not pain relief was necessary. for me, it was definitely necessary...
...so the first drug they gave me was Sadol. it had the effects of laughing gas (or, how i'd imagine laughing gas would affect one, since i myself have never had any). all i could do was giggle offhandedly and babble incoherently, which my parents found hilarious. i found it quite hilarious myself, until it wore off. there went those contractions again, and although they were still painful, i felt as though i were experiencing them through a filter. once the filter wore off (and i did hold off for awhile...more like 15 minutes. well it felt like a long time to me! hmph), it was epidural time.
i can't say how grateful i was that all the paperwork was signed ahead of time, b/c that meant that once i called for the pain relief, it came almost immediately! the first round of meds numbed the pain, but not completely. that was fine for awhile, but as the contractions grew in intensity, i knew it i needed more. so they numbed me from waist to toe, and i slept off and on for awhile. then, at 6:30pm, the good Doctor came to check on me, and i knew it was time to push. more importantly, i felt it was time to push, which i'd worried wouldn't happen b/c of the pain meds.
to make a long story a little less long, i started labor at 10:30am, started pushing at 6:30pm, and my little angel, Gee, was on my chest and staring me in the face at 7:17pm. she didn't cry when she came out; she did, however, bite the Doctor and grab the scissor-like things used to clamp her umbilical cord with her long, elegant fingers. when they put her on my chest, she held her head up a little bit and looked me right in the face, still just as quiet as could be. she really didn't cry until the nurses whisked her away for all of the official stuff they have to do. yes, she was already her mama's baby. :)
it makes me smile just thinking about it, so i suppose this has made my day better. although technically, it's now Tuesday. so let's just hope this'll make my Tuesday better than my Monday. as far as Gee and the G.I. Issues: my poor lil' tink-tink will just have to hope for a better day today. i'm hoping right along with her. :)

Gee's Baby Story, pt. 1
so yeah, Gee is already a month old (where the heck does the time go??), but since we're just now getting around to the blog thing, we should probably start with the story of how she got here. well, not the whole story...we all know how babies get here (*wink wink nudge nudge*). i'm talking about her birth story. maybe i should have said that at first. ya'll get the point, though, right? ok, ok, enough with the rambling. so what had happened was...
it started Tuesday, June 8th. i was feeling little pains here and there, but nothing major. however, i broke down crying with one of the pains because i was mad that i wasn't in labor yet. huge as i was, i figured i should've popped Gee out weeks ago, but anywho... my poor mother just knew i was going into labor, even though i tried to tell her through the tears that "she won't come out!" but she called the hospital anyways, and i had no choice but to go get my bag and let her take me to the Labor & Delivery Unit. after our arrival, we learned that i was only 1-2 centimeters dilated, and though i was having regular contractions, they weren't strong enough to make any magic happen. so after an hour of walking the hospital halls (and seeing everybody and their mamas in my snazzy hospital gown) and four hours of laying around in a hospital bed, the hospital sent me home. i stayed up until almost 5am that night/next morning, using the hallways of our house as a walking track, but Gee said that she just wasn't ready yet...pooh.
so June 9th comes and goes uneventfully. then, it's 9am on Thursday, June 10th, Gee's due date and my next (final?) appointment with the OB/GYN. just my luck, my regular doctor had left for his 3 week vacay the previous Friday, and this appointment was with the new doctor in town. i don't know who was more nervous: me or him! but i was put at ease almost immediately by his calm demeanor. or maybe it was the fact that he told me i was 3 centimeters dilated and sent me to the hospital. either way, he was definitely ok with me! so i walk out of his office with the cheesiest smile on my face, and the nurses and clerical staff all grin back as if to say "she's excited now, but let's see how much smiling she's doing in a few hours!" but i couldn't have cared less: baby Gee was FINALLY on her way!
stay tuned for part 2, (hopefully) coming soon... :)
love always, *elle & gee*
